What Colors Create The Feel Of A Coastal Home?
Once again we look to nature when we consider decor colors that create the feel of a coastal home. Soft sand colors such as white, tan, beige and grey are the perfect backdrop and allows you to add more coastal colors of nature. With a neutral color pallet, you can add any color pallet your prefer but natural beach colors of watery blues and sea greens will look right at home.
When adding metals, consider the warm colors of nautical brass and copper.
Coastal Lighting
For a cozy home feel, adding soft light is essential in a coastal inspired home. There are so many lamp options with a nautical coastal feel and most work well in any home.
Pulling from those natural coastal elements is this hanging rope light fixture. The fixture isn’t hardwired, however we added this smart remote light switch and we can easily switch it on and off without moving furniture.

Coastal Inspired Books
Another great and easy way to add coastal charm to your home decor is to add a stack of coast books.
I love using books of all types in my decor and these coastal decor coffee table books give the pelican a little lift.
In addition, a great coastal read is this classic book by Anne Morrow Lindbergh. I read it at least once a year and get new insights into the season of my life each time.
Coastal Decor Ideas – Art
Filling your walls and shelves with pieces of coastal art is another way to add a warm and cozy feel to your home. You can create a coastal vibe with images of shorelines, coastal wildlife, ships, etc.
On this accent wall, you can see many of the natural elements that I mentioned above.
The sand filled DIY Candle Holders and the Nautical Mirror are both DIY projects that I made for the beach cottage and are perfect coastal decor ideas.
You can elevate the value of any object, such as this wood carved sea turtle, with a glass cloche.
I love to display collected sea shells under a cloche in the farmhouse also. You can fill them with driftwood, coastal books and more for an instant treasured feel.
In addition to cloches, you can create a coastal decoration by filling a bowl with shells, ornaments, driftwood, etc. I added nautical inspired beads and a glass star fish ornament to this thrifted wooden bowl.
